Mren’thew smiled at the changes he saw on the monitor. It had worked! Shawr’a understood his message, and two of the Terran ships were removed from the chase. The odds now favored Knife, even in her weakened state. As long as the drones survived.

Three Terran ships left behind him. Once the drones attacked, he would make his move.

Shawr’a couldn’t understand it. Yes, they had surprised the pursuing ships and their attack had ravaged them. Then as the drones closed on the battered enemy, the pilots lost control of their drones. At first, the monitor showed the craft tumbling wildly. Or had it? The feed was fragmented. The link between the pod and its drones finally failed but the pod’s sensors showed the result. Cutoff from their pilots, the drones followed protocol – they closed on their target and detonated to avoid capture.

No doubt those explosions had caused even more damage to the pursuers. The sensors showed all power gone on both craft. But it also meant Shawr’a was down to two drones. And there were still three ships pursuing Knife.

“Keep distance from the targets,” she ordered the pilots of the two remaining drones. They could not lose another. On the monitor, the two drones closed on the larger targets. If they did fail, they had to take these two out of the battle. The third she would leave to her pack lord.
